Akwaaba — Arrival in Accra

Land at Kotoka International. AF host meets you at arrivals with cool towels and zero confusion. Transfer to your suite, settle in, and join us for the Welcome Home dinner — drums, jollof, and a soft intro to the people you'll be travelling with all week.

Independence Square. Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum. Jamestown Lighthouse for the rooftop view. Lunch in Osu, then a guided wander through Makola Market — the heartbeat of the city. Evening leisure to nap, swim, or hit the bar.

NYE Eve — The Gala

Slow morning. Spa or pool, your call. Late afternoon African naming ceremony with a local elder (optional, deeply real). Then we suit up: AF Travel takes over a rooftop venue for our private New Year's Eve gala — dinner, live band, countdown over the Accra skyline, after-party till the year turns.

New Year on the Volta

Soft start to the year. Drive up to Akosombo, board a private boat for a cruise on the Volta River, brunch on water, and the kind of breeze you forget exists. Back to the hotel by sunset.

Cape Coast Crossing

Morning departure to Cape Coast. We arrive, drop bags, and walk into Cape Coast Castle with our own historian guide. The Door of No Return — given the time it asks for. Overnight at a coastal property; the ocean does the rest.

Elmina & Kakum Canopy

Elmina Castle in the morning — UNESCO heritage, fishing harbor next door. Then up to Kakum National Park for the canopy walkway, suspended 130 feet above the rainforest floor. Drive back to Accra by evening.

Aburi Hills & Farewell

Up to Aburi Botanical Gardens for cooler air and craft markets. Visit a Kente weaving village — bring small bills. Back in Accra, we close the trip with the African Attire Farewell Dinner. Wear the fit. Bring the camera.

The questions you were going to ask.

Is flight included?
No — and that's intentional. Airfare from US gateways to Accra (ACC) swings $900–$1,400 depending on origin and how early you book. We'd rather you grab your own deal (or use miles) than pad our package with it. We send a flight-search guide once you're booked.
What's the deposit and payment plan?
$199 holds your seat. The remaining balance is split across 10 monthly payments and auto-billed on the same day each month. Final payment is due 60 days before departure. No interest, no setup fee.
Do I need a visa or vaccines?
Yes to both. US passport holders need a Ghana e-visa (we send the link and walk you through it) and a Yellow Fever vaccination certificate. Passport must be valid 6+ months past Jan 5, 2027. Malaria pills are recommended — talk to your doctor.
I'm solo — can I get matched with a roommate?
Absolutely. We do gender-matched roommate pairing at the double rate. If we can't match you 60 days out, you have the option to upgrade to single or get refunded the difference. We do this every trip — most of our solo travelers leave with a new friend group.
Is this trip for first-timers to Ghana?
Yes — the itinerary is built for the homecoming experience. If it's your fifth time and you want something deeper-cut, talk to us about adding pre/post days in the Volta Region or up north.
What's the cancellation policy?
Deposit and monthly payments are non-refundable, but they are transferable to another AF Travel trip in the same calendar year, subject to a $250 transfer fee. We strongly recommend travel insurance — we'll point you to two providers we trust.
How big is the group?
Capped at 25 travelers. That's the size where it still feels like a family trip and not a tour bus. Once we hit 25, we start a waitlist for cancellations.
